About Me

Kim Spencer, illustrated portrait

I am a native UX/UI designer and Material Design advocate. Although, Android and I are not monogamous. I have been known to cheat with iOS from time to time. In addition, I work and play well with others. Plus, I own an exorbitant number of Legos.

I live in Richmond, Virginia with my husband, three boys and ONE bathroom. They have their own Legos.

Having graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University, twice, I will forever be a maker. I earned my first degree in glass working and furniture design. I returned after a few years to earn my communication design degree.

While at Capital One, I co-founded Design Making which facilitates innovation through regular making practices. Through an ongoing series of analog workshops, we encouraged associates to get off their devices and work with their hands again. With numerous maker spaces within most office locations, Design Making empowered associates to host workshops for their colleagues and business partners. The program was born at Capital One and is currently being developed at PayPal.

My superpowers?
I am seriously OCD when it comes to pixel perfection. Developing Sketch UI libraries is my happy place. But where I really make an impact is through my ability to wrap my brain around large scale, omni channel design problems and create a scalable design system. I can then explain and teach that system to your mom. I’m not kidding.

In business speak, I hope to continue to design and manage a team in the mobile realm. With experience in Agile, juggling multiple development teams and lines of businesses, I hope to land in an environment that encourages continuing education, fosters innovation and empowers women.
