Allow yourself to wander aimlessly. Explore adjacencies. Lack judgment. Postpone criticism.

I don’t do this enough anymore. I don’t do this at all.

I want to do it again in Paris. I want to hear the hum of the scooters, the smell of good food.

I live in the Fan. It’s a historical district lined with row houses from the turn of the century. It’s great for wondering. The alleyways hold wonderful surprises like art, playgrounds and community gardens.

When I taught at VCU I would walk to and from class. I’d wander down the alleys off Monument Avenue, taking photos and collecting flowers. I’d make friends along the way. The calico between Allen and Meadow. The beagle a block away.

I need to do this more.
